We all remember Johnson, Nixon, Clinton, Bush (II)
and now Obama don't we? When we are completely honest, we admit that each party takes its turn giving us some of
its worst. Can we start by admitting this? I hope so.
Then possibly we can also move beyond that old
Florida debacle when it was first said that every vote should be counted and then those same folks did all they could to have
the absentee military votes thrown out. And you may recall that fiasco about letting felons vote, and that false affidavit
on the Illinois case that was used to try and sway the Florida court, and the Bush voter cards found stacked in with a bunch
of Gore cards, and on and on it went. And then there is the more current Obama campaign with what seems to have
been millions of bogus "Acorn" voter registrations. And there is the illegal aliens on the voter roles, etc.,
etc.
Yes, that's all factual information. And yes, although
one specific party seems to have been particularly involved in most of the many problems in Florida and in Illinois, the truth
is that both parties seem to have plenty of members willing to take their turns pulling all sorts of stunts.
The shame does not belong with one party. It is instead, an excellent example of equal opportunity.
So, let's put a clothes pin on our nose and take a real
close look at the situation. Are you ready? Okay, here we go.
From the book, "Good-bye, America?": "When
big money rolls in to support a politician's campaign, don't you think that if there's any way possible for the politician
to give extra consideration to big contributors' wants and needs, that politician will find a way to justify special attention
to those wants and needs? And what is that sort of thing called? It is quite simply called a legal way to bribe
a politician. It's that simple."
And there is the Cato Institute paper that tells us that
campaign finance reform actually could threaten to drive down the turnout for elections. (And there is seldom a
great number who bother to vote even now, as it is.)
A growing number are beginning to suggest that about the
only possible solution might well be to arrange for a much more comprehensive public coverage that doesn't depend on campaign
financing. And then really cutting back on all forms of campaign financing, way back, well beyond all half-baked attempts
we've seen up 'till now. This we can do. But will we?
And, as we look deeper into the bowls of the beast, we find
far more than we would like to see. When you listen to the politicians talk, you hear them tell you how they somehow
manage to not be responsible for any of our problems or for the lack of effective solutions either. As Hubert Humphrey
once said, "We believe that to err is human. To blame it on someone else is politics."
As was written in that book I keep quoting, "Even though
we all take turns being wrong sometimes, we have allowed far too many politicians into office to make a career out of doing
it practically all the time."
So, what on Earth can one do about this sorry mess?
Much more than you might think. For one thing, you might like to take a look at "The Politicians' Pledge" page
on this site. That pledge, or one very much like it, could be used to apply public pressure on the politicians to sign
and follow the rules.
And there are programs for your computer, such as "In
House Lobbyist" which helps you to keep in touch with the whole damn bunch. It's an item marketed by "Go Lobby,
LLC" and they can be reached at 714/445-1171. And there are others you might like to get in touch with that we have
listed on our resources pages of this site, and on the ACTION pages and on the "Important National Movement Groups" page.
And the list goes on and on. There are an almost endless
number of possibilities on this one web site alone, and there are many other web sites as well. You can be motivated
here. You can learn about many of the problems and some of the possible solutions. You can find inspiring and
motivational videos here. You can find contacts everywhere in America. You can find ways of getting into action
right now!
You might also consider the possibility of actually running
for public office yourself, or persuading someone else to do so. In the book "Good-bye, America?", on page
295, you will find a list of instructions on how to begin such an endeavor.
And, if that's a bit much to ask of you, then why not just get
actively involved with the party of your choice? get deep within its structure and bring your friends with you.
And do so with courage and determination to set a new standard of value and behavior.
Please pay close attention to this. YOU CAN
MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Yes, you really can. Never mind that you don't have time. Your time is set by your priorities
and this is one hell of a high priority (or it certainly should be). Never mind that you don't know what to do.
This site and the book and so much more is available to you. We are there for you. We will help in any way that
we can.
You are not alone.
